  1. Hi Cecil! I came across your blog after too much ‘new pope news’ which took my mind tumbling back to St. Joseph’s College in North Bay, Ont. – circa 1964-67, and I googled Caswell, which led me to your article. I was a boarder at St. Jo’s and we had one heckuva fun priest ‘assigned’ to us. I have thought of Father Caswell so many times over the years. What a great sense of humor and a very compassionate guy….he skated with us, tried to teach us to play football….oh ya, he said mass and all that stuff too!

Catholic priests have gotten such a bad rap with the global sexual abuse cases and I always think about how my own experience and that of many of my friends was just so enriched by guys like John Caswell. Denis I knew of only by rep….his sister, however, was one of my teachers and she was a great person – education was her specialty as well.

It was fun to read about your lunch with him and Denis Murphy. Here’s to friendship and great priests!

    Thank you, Christie Demas
