It probably can do quantum physics in several languages, too, and doesn’t have to eat or sleep.

Just What the Doctor Ordered . . .

. . . Dr. Anthonhy Fauci, that is:

another variant of the coronavirus that he says could already be in the U.S.

It allows him and the government he represents to sit down, shout down and shut down amid the clamor to get vaccinated, get the booster (and the one after it), wear masks, stay socially distanced, avoid crowds, andonandonandonandonandon.

This is not going to end, but what are we going to do about it?

An Ignored Self-Defense Case

leave a comment »

Out-shouted by the raucous and racist angst after the Kyle Rittenhouse not-guilty verdict last week was another acquittal logged at the same time finding a Florida man not guilty who claimed he was defending himself and his girlfriend when he fired shots at sheriff’s deputies during an early morning raid on his home.

It takes more reading and catching up with the story to learn he is a Black man from a photo in the piece and more to learn he is a convicted felon.

Neither of which makes his exoneration invalid.

But it hampers the ongoing righteous rants about white-supremacist Rittenhouse getting white-privilege justice.

The Florida case is just as tragic as the Kenosha case. Anyone interested can Google “Andrew A.J. Coffee.”

All Group Activities Cancelled . . .

. . . for two weeks at Sunrise of Gilbert in the wake of three COVID-19 quarantines

in the Independent Living wing and reports of other cases elsewhere in the facility along with reports of the rising number of new cases out there in the world.

You could hear a huge sigh of relief whoosh through the building because someone has taken charge. There have been a couple of yowls about the cessation of the free-booze happy hour. But the inmates responded readily to the fact that everybody can do whatever they want, there just aren’t any group activities for this period other than meals in the dining room and bus trips for shopping.

How does the Kyle Rittenhouse . . .

. . . saga continue?

Does the DOJ come up with federal charges?

Does he sue the media and candidate Joe Biden for defamation?

Does he become the face and spokesperson of right-wing conservatives?

Does he go on a lecture tour?

Does he write a book? Make a movie?

Or does he tell the world to leave him alone and try to disappear into the mundane mob to live a life?

I don’t think we’ll let him.

… are millionaires.

And that government still keeps denigrating the less-than-10 percent of the population who are millionaires — and come up with 70 percent of the income tax —

for not “paying their fair share.”

. . . five decades ago, just how long ago that was smacked me in the face as I skimmed over the list of winners of the most recent club journalism awards.

The only names I was a familiar with were those of the long-ago folks the awards were named for.

Just Another Saturday …

… at Sunrise of Gilbert.

It was our Western Extravaganza with hayrides for the kids (of all ages), petting zoo, trail-rider chuck- wagon dining, line dancing, saloon shootout, fantastic weather, family visits, and favorite-tunes-for-old-farts band among the features that kept a few hundred people entertained for the afternoon.

Everyone reported sleeping well that night.
